If you find any Linux Junkies here, please ask them to start using
TrueOS if they want something else to do rather than attacking and
criticising Windows 10 users.
It has got PersonaCrypt and GELI disk level encryption which they can
brag about saying how wonderful and secure their OS is.

There is new Video just created about TrueOS which they can watch it

Just another Troll to be filtered out and I wonder where
he gets 600 million Windows 10 devices. Probably if we count
all the Linux in embedded devices we would easily pass that.
I got Linux in my TV, in an Android tablet and a Epson
printer, a wireless phone and two laptop/notebook devices.

That is not saying much.
Windows in its previous versions wasted a lot of work time
and resulted in loss of functionality and privacy. It was like
a culture medium for viral intrusions and other malwares.

Not even all microsoft windows devices together gets up to 300 million
units, maybe if you include all who dual boot Linux, then maybe ;)

Don't forget that the second most sold OS (iOS/macOS) runs on 300
million devices, customer base seems to be fare more satisfied with
there devices than the third runner up (microsoft windows) and both of
them together are far fewer than the Android/Linux with more than 1.5
billion devices. (this only including phones, tablets, laptops and desktops)
If including the IoT, servers, switches and so on, then the user base of
the third ecosystem would be so laughing small that no one would care
about the numbers.
Don't forget that microsoft earns over 2 billion USD from FUD
Android/Linux licenses, for them their own OS just becoming more of an
economical burden.

I don't think his message is about the number of Windows
users but about another OS which might be interesting,
especially for Linux users.
So no need to go ballistic.

TrueOS is FreeBSD with easy install, package manager and openRC as init
system. Also uses libreSSL instead of openSSL. Own repo so portage from
FreeBSD can't be used.
Default desktop environment is Lumina specially by distro maintainers,
and file system is ZFS. Default boot environments is 5 as if update goes
wrong you can boot from previous snapshot.
But as FreeBSD is, hardware support is sparse ;)

Not when I'm on a *Linux* usenet group. I don't see the obvious interest
on Windows at all. If this was posted on a Windows group and I was
subscribed there, then obviously I would have interest about Windows. As
Windows is not included in the list of groups where this was posted,
then there was no interest in Windows or for Windows. Obviously :-)

Of course more info is just that, more info, personally I am more
interested in good working pro quality software, something is very
hard to find for linux.
A quick view on the TrueOS site shows me the same linux grap there too
so probably not much for me to gain.
Still I won't mind people posting things like other desktop OSes here..

And the troll is still trolling, disparaging Linux wherever/whenever
he can.

Ed, your failures with Linux are your own fault, not the fault of the
software as I have pointed out many many times. Your messy thinking
makes you make simple-minded mistakes which you can't see because you
don't want to admit your simple-minded messy thinking.

If you can't find pro quality software that's because you don't know
what you're looking for.
No doubt you know much better what software I am using and
what I am looking for.
Youre not arrogant and stupid at all. :-)
By the way learn to use a proper sig.

Good Guy posted this on the wrong Newsgroup.
Just another Troll to be filtered out and I wonder where
he gets 600 million Windows 10 devices.
I don't think his message is about the number of Windows
users but about another OS which might be interesting,
especially for Linux users.
So no need to go ballistic.
In that case it would describe what that new os has of interest for
Linux users.
He mention security and it is another alternative for windows.
No harm done in checking if it is something for you.
Windows? Why should I care, then? :-p
Because you are interested in such a thing obviously.
You are using a windows alternative although you too where force fed
with windows. So it is not strange in any way to suppose you are
interested in other alternatives too.
No, I'm not using a Windows alternative. There are no Windows
alternatives: you either use Windows from Microsoft or not.

Years ago, there were alternatives to MsDOS from other makers.

There are other operating systems, but not "Windows alternatives"; there
is only one provider of Windows.

Well, that's the job of the person that made the announcement ;-)
He did mention a couple things and anyone can check for themselves.
Not enough no arouse my curiosity. The investigation was left to us.

See? This is a good report :-))
So, you are sold now?
Nope. That paragraph fills most of my curiosity, enough to see that I do
not want TrueOS for me. I might investigate more, if I'm bored enough :-)
A paragraph like that above is what the OP should have written. That's
what I meant with "good report".
Of course more info is just that, more info, personally I am more
interested in good working pro quality software, something is very
hard to find for linux.
In your opinion.

A quick view on the TrueOS site shows me the same linux grap there too
so probably not much for me to gain.
No, TrueOss is not Linux. There are similarities, which is different.

Still I won't mind people posting things like other desktop OSes here..
I don't mind people posting about other operating systems, as long as
the information is correct.

So wrong you are and it's open source too, take a look at ReactOS (how
useful it is is another issue).

Ok, so that's a Windows alternative, I stand corrected :-)

But not production ready:

«As of March 2018, ReactOS is considered alpha software,
feature-incomplete but with many Windows applications already working
(e.g. Adobe Reader 6.0, OpenOffice, etc.[11]),[12] and therefore
recommended by the developers only for evaluation and testing
purposes.[13][14]»

Just another Troll to be filtered out and I wonder where

all the Linux in embedded devices we would easily pass that.
I got Linux in my TV, in an Android tablet and a Epson
printer, a wireless phone and two laptop/notebook devices.

With over 600 million devices now running Windows 10, customer
satisfaction is higher than any previous version of windows.
That is not saying much.
Windows in its previous versions wasted a lot of work time
and resulted in loss of functionality and privacy. It was like
a culture medium for viral intrusions and other malwares.
There are more than 600 million routers out there all running Linux.

Just that alone makes a remarkable statement.

Higher than 2%, you mean? It is amazing what can be achieved by
arm-twisting. Windows has now sent me its "bells and whistles" update.
Windows itself couldn't install it, but my driver updater could. Even
with it, Windows runs a lot more slowly than Linux. It is high time
that Microsoft got their priorities right.
