Post by m***@home.netI have no group list whatsoever, which I see as critical. It just
seems to hang, saying 'connecting', as if it can't, which seems
probable. If I can't ge that, then I can't go forward.
I suspect you have made an error/typo in your configuration of the news
server.
Here is what it looks like to 'engage' a news server from the
commandline. I won't fetch a news message or get the group list, but I
will just login/authenticate and then quit. Replacing my personal info
with a munge.
$ telnet news.individual.net 119
Trying 130.133.4.11...
Connected to news.individual.net.
Escape character is '^]'.
200 The server welcomes <munge rDNS>
(munge my IP). Authorization required for reading and posting.
authinfo user <munge>
381 PASS required
authinfo pass <munge>
281 Authentication accepted. (UID=309623)
quit
205 .
Connection closed by foreign host.
You can try that same thing with your easynews like this:
$ telnet news.us.easynews.com 119
Trying 69.16.179.39...
Connected to news.us.easynews.com.
Escape character is '^]'.
200 news.easynews.com Welcome! (fx36.iad)
authinfo user <your username>
381 PASS required
authinfo pass <your password>
502 Authentication Failed
quit
205 Goodbye
Connection closed by foreign host.
My bogus authentication credentials failed at easynews, but yours should
result in success like mine did above that at NIN.
This page in the manual has instructions but no screenshots. There are
screenshots for an older v. of Pan at individual.net, but they don't
look like your v.0.139 so I won't post that link.
