Hello alt.os.linux.ubuntu!
Does anyone knows if there is a newsgroup devoted to MX Linux?
I need one because I use MXLinux i386.
In this thread, they discuss some options.

The question was asked in the alt.os.linux.debian group.

https://groups.google.com/g/alt.os.linux.debian/c/dF6F9iYfCRU

alt.os.linux
comp.os.linux.misc
alt.os.linux.debian <=== doing it here, would be squatting

If every Debian-related group, posted in alt.os.linux.debian ,
it would be anarchy. The other two groups, are more general purpose.

https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/1/1b/Linux_Distribution_Timeline.svg

I would agree the situation is not ideal. But if you look at the
groups created for distros, there are only about sixteen of them,
while there are five hundred Linux distros, and it is not
practical for groups to be created for all of them.

If an administrator discovers a low level of traffic in an alt.*
group, it can be removed by the administrator. At one time,
the alt.* hierarchy had 100,000 groups in it, many had no traffic
(except spam) and during the "Great Cleanup", many of those
were removed. For example, the group

alt.swedish.chef.bork.bork.bork

no longer exists. At one time, it had traffic, and it was
related to a television program. But the group is gone now,
as one of the transient-type groups.

Does anyone knows if there is a newsgroup devoted to MX Linux?
comp.os.linux.misc exists and there isn't that much traffic, so feel
free to ask any Linux questions there.

That would be refreshing. There are a couple of ongoing threads that have
little to do with Linux since we ran out of Linux topics :) Personally I
don't know anything about MX but someone might. I would suggest

https://www.reddit.com/r/MXLinux/

There is recent on topic activity.

Maybe a new group can be created. Do people even do that anymore?

If you are interested in MX, there is an excellent forum at https://forum.mxlinux.org/
Very helpful, and quite active.

I'm sure you could create a new alt group for MX. I'm not so sure it's
needed or would thrive.

For now it's probably better to discuss MX in one of the existing Linux
newsfroups. If a lot of people start discussing it, then you can think
about creating a new group.

comp.os.linux.misc is probably a good bet, as noted above.

We are, sadly, no longer in the heyday of Usenet, so there aren't huge
amounts of traffic in most of the text newsgroups. There is thus plenty
of room for all in the existing groups.

At the risk of stating the obvious, Distro Watch is a good forum for
Linux users.
